By Rita Elenwo

Anambra state police command has allegedly raided the office of the pro-Biafra agitators in the state, arresting an 87-year-old member of the group, Chief Sylvester Dinyelu.

The security forces were said to have apprehended two others identified as Chief Beka Udemefuna (66 years old) and Amauche Ode (53 years old).

The pictures of the former Biafran warlord, the late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu and the leader of the Biafra Independence Movement and Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB were also carted away by the raiders.

During the invasion, plastic seats numbering over 16 belonging to BIM-MASSOB were taken away among other properties.

This was revealed to reporters in Awka, Anambra state, in a statement issued on Wednesday, September 27, by the senior special assistant to BIM-MASSOB leader, Chief Chris Mocha.

He further alleged that the arrested members of the pro-Biafra movement at their regional office along Awkuzu-Otuocha road in Ifitedunu, in the Dunukofia council area, were taken to the Criminal Investigation Department CID annex at Awkuzu

“The members of BIM-MASSOB were seated in the office at Ifitedunu when the heavily armed policemen numbering over five arrived at the office in the evening and shot sporadically into the air which led people living around the area to scamper for their safety.

“The arrested members were handcuffed, Ojukwu and Uwazuruike’s enlargement photographs and 16 plastic chairs were recovered and taken away to Awkuzu, Anambra state. BIM-MASSOB has demanded their release from the Criminal Investigation Department, CID, Annex, Awkuzu.

The group maintained that the arrested members were very peaceful, having belonged to Uwazuruike’s BIM-MASSOB that had not constituted a security risk in the State.

When contacted, the state police public relations officer, PPRO, Tochukwu Ikenga, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP, failed to confirm the incident, but rather, said, “Thank you for the information.”

But one of the senior police officers in the state, who preferred anonymity, confirmed the development.

The source said the command was not ready to give any of such groups a chance to continue terrorizing the state for no reason whatsoever.

The senior officer said people should allow the residents to live a peaceful life, adding that the command was still on the hunt for those who were trying to make Anambra ungovernable.
