In what looks like a cult-related strike, a final year student of University of Benin simply known as Mayor has been shot dead on Monday.
Mayor, according to an insider report was said to have been killed in the night in his hostel room inside the campus.
It was revealed that the late student was shot by cultists who have been trailing him for an undisclosed reason. It was not however confirmed if he was also a cult member before he was killed by cultists.
The late student popularly known as ‘Mayor’, was said to be in 400-level at the Department of Public Administration. He was expected to complete his first degree by July when the institution would be done with its academic calendar for the year.
Since he was shot dead at about 9 pm, the institution has reportedly been plunged into a state of panic as students are currently afraid of possible reprisal attack by rivalled group.
While there is no yet official statement by the school authority, it was gathered that Mayor remains had been conveyed to the mortuary at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH).
