The Police Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Command, Benjamin Hundeyin has given reason the Afrobeat singer, Seun Anikulapo Kuti was placed on handcuffs after he made his appearance at the Command headquarters on Monday.
Following the order of the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali-Baba to arrest the Afrobeat singer after the video of his assault on officer went viral, Seun Kuti voluntarily reported to the Lagos command on Monday morning to assist the police in their investigation.
Giving an update on Seun’s presence at the Command, Benjamin Hundeyin posted his pictures and confirmed he has been arrested, detained and assured the investigation will be detailed and transparent.
He wrote: “Afrobeat musician, Seun Kuti, in the early hours of today turned himself in at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja, in company of his lawyer and family representative. He has been placed under arrest.”
However, the police decision to handcuff the popular singer sparked another round of debate on social media.
One of the tweeter users named “Engryookos” asked the PPRO why the Seun Kuti was handcuffed.
Responding to the question, Hundeyin said the Afrobeat singer was handcuffed because the law empowers the police to place on cuffs any suspect who has shown propensity for violence and propensity for evading justice.
