Judiciary workers in the country, under the aegis of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), on Tuesday in Abuja, FCT locked the gates leading to the Supreme Court to protest the lack of financial independence for the judiciary in the country.
They also shut down the National Judicial Council (NJC) and the Federal Judicial Service Commission (FJSC), two major institutions which are located close to the Supreme Court premises.
The three institutions locked up on Tuesday are located in the Three Arms Zone in Abuja which also house the Presidential Villa and the National Assembly Complex.
The action follows the ultimatum issued by (JUSUN), which also include workers of the National Judiciary Council (NJC) and Federal Judicial Service Commission (FJSC), to commence an indefinite strike on Monday before it was rescheduled for Tuesday (today) out of respect for the Easter celebration and holidays which ended on Monday.
Members of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), the apex body of lawyers, will be shocked at the action which is coming despite its best efforts to stop it because of the COVID-19 pandemic challenge and its impact on the operation of the courts nationwide.
It is expected that the action will affect all the courts in the country.
