Ex-PDP Chairman Speaks On Sanwo-Olu’s Presence In Port Harcourt To Commission Wike’s Project

Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike has been in the news for controversial reason since he lost the presidential ticket of the People’s Democratic Party to contest the 2023 presidential election.

Two days ago, Wike invited Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos and Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State to Port Harcourt for commissioning of a flyover bridge newly constructed  and completed by him.

The decision which had attracted public discussion was coming a few weeks after some APC governors led by Dr. Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti state to pay a visit to the Rivers Governor. According to Fayemi, the APC governors were on a friendly visit to Wike.

Reacting to the development especially the latest one where Sanwo-Olu was invited to Port Harcourt to commission Wike’s project, Abubakar Baraje, Former National Chairman of PDP said Wike had not gone ultravire with the PDP constitution. He made the reaction while appearing on Wednesday edition of Arise TV Morning.

Baraje noted that Governor Wike who is nicknamed Mr. Project is known to be playing Politics across party lines and without bitterness. He explained that his action is a way of showing other governors that he is really performing in his state and he has the right to invite dignitaries from other parties to come and see what is happening in Rivers State.

As far as he (Baraje) is concerned, Wike is still a bonafide member and leader of PDP irrespective of what is currently happening in the party. He described the present crisis in the opposition party as a mere storm in a teacup.

Also reacting to the statement made by the governor that he is in charge of Rivers State and his people will vote for whoever he wants them to vote at the presidential election, Baraje said Governor Wike is the leader of the party in his state and he is entitled to his decision and choice of presidential candidate.  But he believes he is still a member and leader in PDP.

Baraje allayed the fear that Southern region will be sidelined in the scheme of things within the party. He assured that very soon, everything will be taken care of in PDP.

He explaiend that the party and its presidential candidate are working underground to put an end to all forms of internal crisis within the party.

Baraje stated this while featuring on the Wednesday edition of Arise TV Morning Show.
