One Key Decision APC Leaders May Take That Can Help Jonathan Secure The Party’s Ticket

The speculation that former president Goodluck Jonathan might likely be the joker that All Progressive Congress is banking on, may soon come to reality if the current situation within the party is anything to go by.

Jonathan who has neither declared his membership of the ruling party nor his intention to contest for president has become the major topic within the APC circle since the permutations for 2023 presidency has begun in the party.

It was rumoured that president Buhari is trying to compensate Jonathan with APC ticket for easily conceding defeat to him in 2015. Another school of thought was of the opinion that the former president will enable power rotate back to the north if he contest and win the election in 2023.

This is because he can only spend a term since he had completed a term of four years in 2015.

Currently, Jonathan is one of the aspirants of the All Progressive Congress following the decision of some Northern group to obtain a nomination form on his behalf.

Since then, he was said to be meeting with APC Leaders for consultation and the possibility of contesting the party’s ticket.

Looking at the array of credible and competent aspirants in the party, it will be a tall dream for Jonathan to walk into the race a few hours to the primary and hope to defeat the likes of Bola Tinubu, Yemi Osinbajo, Rotimi Amaechi and others who have been working round the clocks to make a great outing at the primary.

Hence, If APC really wants to drag Jonathan into the race and make him secure the ticket, there is only one decision that must be taken in his favour. That decision is to help him emerge as a consensus candidate.

For this to happen, they must call all the aspirants to a round table meeting and give them convincing reason Jonathan should be given the ticket.

The Aspirants must also give a nod of agreement without anyone standing against the decision among them. This is the only way that can make Jonathan Secure the party ticket.

If he is allowed to slug it out with them in the primary, the former president will be heavily humiliated at Eagles Square and this will not be good for his sterling political record both within and outside Nigeria.
