It’s Embarrassing, Heads Should Be Rolling By Now- Security Expert Speaks On Kuje Prison Attack

Nigerians have been expressing deep concerns and serious worry over the latest attack on the maximum correctional center, Kuje Abuja.

The attack took place on Tuesday night by suspected terrorists who were believed to have also been responsible for the attack on Abuja-Kaduna Train over three months ago.

Over 1000 inmates were said to have been released in the jail break among who are detained Boko Haram terrorists and hardened Criminals who were on awaiting trials. ISWAP has since claimed responsibility for the attack.

Speaking on the situation on the Thursday edition of Arise TV Morning Show, a security consultant, Chidi Omeje decried the porosity of Nigeria security system especially in the public institution as tragic and embarrassing.

According to him, this is the most barbaric assault on public institution he has ever witnessed. He considered it a monumental embarrament to the national security system and those who are in different positions to prevent such an attack.

By now, heads should have been rolling. There is no need for setting up a committee to look into the issue. Afterall, president Muhammadu Buhari had visited the scene and seen for himself the level of damages and incompetence demonstrated by the security personnel.

Chidi Omeje asked some critical questions on how the Bandits were able to prepare for the attack for many days, travelled several kilometers to the centre and operated for about three hours without the knowledge of security Intelligence?

He also asked if the National Intelligence Agency still responsible for gathering relevant information and update the police and other security agencies on things like this.

The security expert said by now, heads should have been rolling over the matter. As a matter of fact, those who are in positions to take preventive measures should not be waiting to be fired by the presidency. They should have willingly resigned.

Omeje, a security consultant and Editor in Chief of Security Digest stated this on Thursday edition of Arise TV Morning Show.
