Peter Obi Identifies One Effective Way Corruption Can Be Completely Eradicated In Nigeria

Curbing corruption that has become an endemic disease in Nigeria appears to be part of reaons Dr. Peter Obi is aspiring to be president of Nigeria.

The former Anambra state Governor is one of the leading presidential aspirants jostling to grab the PDP ticket and run for 2023 general election.

Obi, while appearing as a Guest on the Tuesday edition of Arise TV Morning Show, spoke extensively on a myriad of problems confronting the nation and how he intends tackling them one after the other if he is elected in 2023.

Asked how he plans to end corruption which has become part of the Nigerian system especially in government circle, Obi said he has already mapped out a strategy that will make it difficult for any government official to steal money while in office.

According to him, the best and viable way to curb corruption in the country is for the number one citizen of that country and his family to be free of corruption allegation or suspicion.

He noted that if the president is able to rein on his household and makes them detest corruption like a taboo, it will be easy to fight corruption among the political appointees or any elective officer.

He said the reason EFCC has not been effective is because most of the people under its investigation are powerful people who have the power to hire and fire its chairman.

He explained that in a situation where the president is free of corruption but his wife or some of his children have corruption allegations hanging on their neck, it means the president himself is corrupt and it will be difficult for anti-graft agencies to go after such people.

It will also be difficult for the president to caution the people under him from engaging in financial recklessness and embezzlement.

He said if he is elected as president, he will start the fight against corruption right from his own family and friends. If he did not give them the opportunity to steal money, then he would watch how appointees under him will find it easy to steal money.

Obi pointed out that he adopted the strategy while he was in government in Anambra and it worked. Hence, he believes there is no how it will not work if he becomes president.

He claims that he will make it difficult for people to steal money under him and he will not leave EFCC to do the job alone.

Obi said this on Tuesday while featuring on Arise TV Morning Show monitored by RovingNaija.
