Labour Union embarks on strike in Lagos

By Orji Onyekwere

Trade Union Congress, (TUC), held a protest March on Monday September 25, 2023, to demand the immediate lifting of the illegal ban of the operation of Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, (RTEAN), an affiliate of the labour center, by Jide Sanwo-Olu government of Lagos.

One of the highlights of the protest was the promotion of messages of unity and solidarity in the labour movement. Members of the Joint Action Front (JAF) joined the protest in solidarity.

Meanwhile the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, is set to embark on indefinite strike if talks between its leadership and the federal government come to dead end. The strike is supposed to start tomorrow Tuesday as the labour union says government has been given enough time to resolve the matter.

However, private business operators have told the union that it’s continuous strike is having serious effect on the ailing economy and also de-marketing the country.
