By A’isha Raji

A former Nigerian Senator in the 8th Assembly, Shehu Sani has given kudos to the federal government on the steps taken so far concerning the recent xenophobic attack on Nigerians in South Africa.

Senator Sani while reacting to the plans by the federal government on his tweeter handle Thursday said ECOWAS (Economic Community of West African States) should also take a clear position on the issue as it is weightier than the mere issuing of statements.

He also called on the African Union (AU) to initiate a new convention on xenophobia in order to protect Africans in Africa. This according to Sani, must be signed by all member states.

He said, “AU must initiate a new convention on xenophobia to protect Africans in Africa.”

He however warned that, the steps taken by federal government of Nigeria must be sustained.
