General debate begins as Buhari speaks at 74th UN assembly

Debate opens Tuesday, at the ongoing 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly holding in New York America as President Muhammadu Buhari takes the podium as the 5th speaker.
President Buhari, who left Abuja in the company of two state governors; Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa and Gboyega Oyetola of Osun state as well as his personal aides and other delegates was billed to be the 5th speaker among over 200 world leaders. The President is to speak after Brazil, US, Egypt and Turkey.
According to Mr. Femi Adeshina, Special Adviser to President on Media and Publicity, President Buhari, after taking off from Abuja had a technical stopover at Santa Maria, an Island in Portugal which took six hours, twenty minutes.
The President had Monday addressed an audience on climate change with the theme ‘A Race We Can Win. A Race We Must Win’ where he outlined effort being made by Nigerian government to stave off what he described as “Climate catastrophe.”
President Buhari had also visited the president of the 74th session of the UN General Assembly, Professor Tijjani Muhammad-Banda who was congratulated and reminded of the burden on his shoulder. Bande however thanked President Buhari for nominating him for the enviable position. #
