Breaking News: Wale Adeyemo emerges first Nigerian-American deputy treasury secretary

The Chairman/CEO of Nigerians in the Diaspora Commision, Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has confirmed the appointment of a Nigerian citizen, Mr. Adewale “Wally” Adeyemo, as the Deputy Secretary of the United States Treasury.

Mr. Adeyemo becomes the first Nigerian to be so appointed.

He has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California and a law qualification, Juris Doctor, from the Yale Law School.

He previously served as the first President of the Obama Foundation in 2019. He also served as deputy National Security Adviser for International Economics from 2015-2016 and deputy Director of the National Economic Council under the President Barack Obama administration.

In a congratulatory message on her verified official twitter handle, @Abikedabiri, Mrs Dabiri-Erewa wrote:

“It’s official! Wale Adeyemo becomes the first ever Nigerian American Deputy Secretary of the US Treasury, in the history of the country!! Congrats to Wale.”
