Two Police Constables Land In Trouble For Escorting SUG President

Two police constables who are serving in Jimeta Police Division in Adamawa State Police Command may face a disciplinary action over what is regarded as gross misconducts while discharging their responsibilities.

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has referred the two unnamed uniform men to the Force Provost for punitive actions after they were seen giving ecort to a newly elected Students Union President after the convention and election exercise organised by the National Union of Adamawa State Students (NUADSS) between September 4 and 5, 2023.

The Policemen were on Monday seen in a viral video on the social media escorting the car of the newly elected SUG President.

But, reacting to the development, the Police Headquarters said the two Policemen went beyond their brief and purpose of their deployment to the Students Union event, adding that their actions were unacceptable and do not represent the values of the Police Force.

Taking to his verified X platform (formerly Twitter) on Monday, Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Prince Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said both Policemen and their superiors had been summoned to the Force Headquarters in Abuja for appropriate action.

Adejobi wrote: “We are committed to maintaining professionalism and upholding the dignity of the Nigeria Police Force. Regarding the recent incident involving two Constables escorting a student union president in Adamawa State, their actions were unacceptable and do not represent the values of our force.

“The officers, who are attached to Jimeta Divisional Police Command, along with their superiors, have been summoned to the Force Headquarters for appropriate action. It’s important to note that they were deployed to maintain peace and security during the convention and electoral process organized by the National Union of Adamawa State Students (NUADSS) on 4th and 5th of September, 2023.

“Their actions were not in line with the purpose for which they were deployed. They have both been referred to the Force Provost for further disciplinary actions.”
