Basketball Crisis: Olumide Oyedeji tackles Musa Kida again
Former D’Tigers Captain, Olumide Oyedeji has challenged the leadership of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF, to a face-to-face debate in order to set the record straight on the crisis plaguing the domestic basketball League in the country.
The NBBF President, Musa Kida in a press statement issued on Monday accused Oyedeji and his caucus of holding everyone to ransom thereby denying the league’s planned dunk off.
“They handcuffed us and slapped us and we cannot cry. We are legally stopped from having that league.” Kida complained.
“The sad part of this is that the Kwese League Management Board under Olamide Oyedeji and Gombe Bulls took us to court to stop us from running a league of which people claim to have the interest of basketball at heart.” he added.
However, in a swift response, Oyedeji claims Kida and the NBBF board are being economical with the truth and he would be happy to engage them in an open debate in order to set the records straight for all.
“He should be man enough and should not be too economical with the truth, he should stop politicizing everything, is it now that he knows that there is a case in the court, is it now? Oyedeji queried during an interview with Brila FM.
Speaking further, the former NBA star asked why the league failed to hold in 2017, and 2018 even without any court case.
‘Everything I said here is nothing but the truth, and I will love a situation where any of them can face me one-on-one if they are sure what they are saying is the truth.
“I am challenging any single one of them to come for a debate or face-to-face or phone to phone conversation if they have been truthful, stop politicizing Nigeria basketball, enough is enough!.” he concluded
Regardless of Oyedeji’s defense, Kida insists that claiming to love and promote basketball while stopping thousands of stakeholders from playing basketball at the highest level is hard to reconcile.
