WAFU B Tournament: Victory Over Nigeria Excites Ghana Coach
The coach of the Ghana U-20 team Abdul Karim Zito has expressed delight at the crucial win recorded by his boys over Nigeria’s Flying Eagles at the ongoing WAFU B tournament in the Benin Republic.
Precious Boah’s expertly taken free-kick late in the second half was enough to give the Black Satellites the all-important victory they needed to progress.
Speaking to the media after Wednesday’s game Coach Zito said, “I am very, very happy for the win because tournaments of this nature, it’s not always about who played good football or who missed chances.
“Its about who scored. And that is what happened today. At the end of the day, the only chance I had, we utilized it. Just as my colleague (Nigeria Coach, Ladan Bosso Issa) said, the Nigerians had so many chances and wasted them. But we got one and scored and I am very happy that we qualified”.
Meanwhile, coach Zito has confessed that the absence of goal scorer Boah may affect his team ahead of their next game.
“Yes, Boah is my everything in the team, he showed that today (Wednesday) by scoring the only goal of the match. But he is out after the red card and there is nothing, we can do so I have started planning for the next game without him. Maybe he will return if we make it to the final since it’s two yellow cards”. The Ghana coach said
The Black Satellites take on Ivory Coast in their last group game on Saturday and are guaranteed to finish top in Group B once they avoid defeat against the Young Elephants.
For Nigeria, the only hope for them to still stay in contention in this tournament is to see Ghana beat the Young Elephants 2-0 or more.
