Bundesliga: Awoniyi Scores Again

Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi is enjoying a good run of form as he scored yet again for Union Berlin as they pipped Borussia Dortmund 2-1 in Friday’s Bundesliga game.

Awoniyi grabbed the headline when he scored just three days ago (Tuesday) as Union Berlin were held by Stuttgart to a 2-2 draw.

With Friday’s strike, Awoniyi has now taken his league goals in the German topflight to four goals in 11 appearances.

The 23-year old Nigerian opened the scoring for Union Berlin in the 57th minute before Youssoufa Moukoko equalised for Dortmund on 60 minutes.

But with 12 minutes left in the game, Marvin Friedrich popped up with what was the winning goal for Union Berlin.

Friday’s result effectively ended a run of four straight games (three draws, one defeat) without a win for Union Berlin.

They move up to the fifth position on 21 points in the Bundesliga table.

For Awoniyi, his chances of getting a call-up to the Super Eagles is getting brighter by the day with this type of superlative performances week-after-week.
