AFCON 2021:Tunisia sends Nigeria packing

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have crashed out of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations following a 1-0 defeat to Tunisia on Sunday.

A fantastic second half goal from the captain sealed a place for the North African side in the quarter finals.

Tunisia broke the deadlock at the start of the second half when captain Youssef Msakni dribbled two opponents and fired from outside the box to beat goalkeeper Maduka Okoye in the 47th minute.

Many people believe Okoye could have stopped the goal with ease but the goalkeeper appeared to have lost concentration at the time.

Coach Austin Eguavoen made two changes right after the goal, bringing in Alex Iwobi and Peter Olayinka for Kelechi Iheanacho and Taiwo Awoniyi respectively.

However, the Everton player failed to last as he was shown a straight red card on his first touch on the ball for rough tackle.

Despite the devastating setback, the Super Eagles gave their all with Sadiq Umar coming in to prove a point following criticism he received for his last performance against Guinea Bissau.

Umar almost equalised for Nigeria after beating goalkeeper Bechir Ben Said in the final ten minutes but his shot went just off the side bar.

Tunisia, who qualified with just three points from the group stages, now joins Burkina Faso in the quarter final, while Nigeria heads home.
