Akure- Ado Ekiti Road, An Eyesore, A Disgrace To Our Govt. – Ondo NUJ Laments

The Ondo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has described the continuous neglect of Akure-Ado Ekiti road as unfortunate, saying it is an eyesore and a monumental disgrace to the government.

Rising from its monthly meeting in Akure presided over by the state chairman of NUJ, Prince Leke Adegbite, the union said it is highly embarrassing that the road is in a deplorable condition.

According to a communique issued at the end of the meeting, the NUJ called on the Federal Government as well as Ondo and Ekiti State Governments, to urgently find a permanent end to people’s suffering on the road.

The union however commended the state government over the ongoing fixing of pot-holes on roads across the state capital.

It also pleaded with the Ministry of Infrastructure, Lands & Housing to urgently complete ongoing construction of Akure-Oda road and attend to ‘collapsed Adebowale junction -Apomu road.

The NUJ charged the government to intensify efforts immediately after the rainy season in view of economic benefits of Oda and Aponmu roads.

The union called on the State Ministry of Environment and 18 Local Government Authorities to clear waterways and drainage in Akure metropolis and other parts of the state to prevent flooding.

The union also commended government officials for assisting in giving the press center a facelift.

The communique added, “That the Congress appreciates the recent donations of some Government’s top officials towards ongoing Face-Lift of facilities at our NUJ Press Centre, especially the State Commissioner for Infrastructure, Lands & Housing, Engr Raimi Aminu; the Commissioner for Information & Orientation, Chief (Mrs) Bamidele Ademola-Olateju and the State Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr Richard Olatunde.
