How Former State Accountant General Declared Wanted For N435b Fraud Wins PDP Guber Primary

Siminialayi Fubara, the former accountant general of Rivers State has emerged the governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party.

Fubara won the party’s primary on Wednesday after polling 721 votes to defeat the other 16 aspirants who participated in the contest.

Fubara had once been declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for allegedly mismanaging a sum of 435billion naira while in office.

He was believed to have escaped the arrest and prosecution because of his closeness with governor of the State, Nyesom Wike.

Widely acknowledged as Wike’s first choice aspirant, Fubara emerged winner at the primary concluded on Wednesday night at the Obi Wale Cultural Center, Port Harcourt.

A total of 16 aspirants contested the election after a series of meetings and consultations led by Governor Nyesom Wike failed to yield a consensus.

He polled 721 out of a total votes cast of 890 to emerge the overall winner.  Chairman of the electoral committee, Prof. Walter Mboto, led three others to announce the result of the election.

Among the aspirants that participated in the primaries were former deputy governor, Tele Ikuru, Felix Obuah, immediate past Chairman of PDP in the State, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, Secretary to the State Government, George Kelly, Special Adviser to Governor Wike on Projects and Dr. Abiye Sekibo former Minister of Transportation.
