Marketing Edge Publisher, John Ajayi tasks journalists to be audacious, multi-talented

Publisher of Marketing Edge Magazine, Mr. John Ajayi has enjoined journalists to go beyond news reporting and do more for themselves in the media industry.

The veteran journalist gave this advice while addressing newsmen at a Press Conference organized as part of activities marking the 20th anniversary of Marketing Edge, a leading Marketing and Advertising publication that is saddled with the responsibilities of promoting brand idea.

According to Ajayi, for journalists to have an edge in the Industry, they must be audacious, develop multiple competencies, discover who they are and be able to do marketing.

“At our different levels, beyond what we are doing presently, let us develop multiple competencies. You must discover you in you. You must develop who you are. If you have not discovered your you in you, you have a lot of work to do. Everybody is talented. Everybody is gifted. If you are journalists, you should learn how to be a marketer. You should know how to do marketing. It will give you confidence to approach any other thing.

“If you are a service provider or you have business and you don’t know how to do marketing, that business will not work. You should be able to walk to anybody and sell your service. Service is like a product. Don’t say you are not a marketer. Every journalist must be a marketer, I’m a marketer. As brand journalists, you have a lot of opportunities ahead of you.

“We need to redefine our focus, see how we can do more for ourselves than just for the industry.” He said.

The publisher who recounted some of the challenges encountered in the early days of Marketing Edge publication charged the younger generation not to lose focus in their visions, noting that a visioner must constantly remained possessed.

“As a visioner, the dreamer, you must constantly remained possessed. It is good to work for your vision. If you do, come rain, come shine, you will be undaunted. You will go through a lot but one thing is key, determination, purpose, consistency, endurance will see your dream come to fruition. You must be audacious.” He concluded.

The press conference which gave an insight into the 20 years journey of the publication and line up of anniversary events was climaxed with the unveiling of Marketing Edge 20th Anniversary logo.
