How we qualified for WAFU Final, picked AFCON ticket- Golden Eaglets Coach
The Head Coach of the Nigeria U-17 team, Fatai Amoo has given some insights into the tactical approach he deplored to overcome Burkina Faso in Friday’s semi-final contest at the ongoing WAFU B Tournament in Tog
Though Amoo acknowledged the quality of the Burkina Faso team, he suggests the superior tactical approach paved the way for the Golden Eaglets into the final and also helped them to qualify for the U-17 AFCON billed for Morocco.
Speaking to newsmen after Friday’s game, Amoo said he had motivated his lads and expressed his believe in them to win the game even though their opponent have the quality to win.
“I knew they really have the players to win this game but we motivated our boys that you are improving, go there we believe you can do it and try all your possible best and they did that by winning the game, Amao said.
He revealed that he decided to strengthen his defense line in a bid to keep the Coach Oumarou Eric Quattara led the team at bay considering their ability from the flanks with good players who can head the ball very well coupled with a good combination of play in the midfield.
The former Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan gaffer said he had understudied the opponent during their matches against Niger and Benin noting that they had to keep them away from heading the ball and shooting the ball through his defenders.
All thanks to Michael Emmanuel Papo’s strike in the 77th minutes as Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets defeated Burkina Faso to book a place in the final of the 2021 WAFU B tournament in Togo.
Nigeria will face Ivory Coast again in the final on Sunday
