NPFL: Rivers United back on top after slim win
Rivers United are back to the number one position on the Nigeria Professional Football League table.
Fortune Omoniwari ensured Rivers United’s return to the summit of NPFL log with a well-struck 51st-minute winner against Adamawa United on Sunday.
In a game of precious numerous chances, Rivers United found it tough to break down the visitors and when Edward Elam on 35th minutes was adjudged to have handled the ball in the penalty area, Godwin Aguda failed to find the back of the net from twelve yards.
But after a spell of early pressure just after the back, Fortune Omoniwari slammed the ball in from close range after Victor Philemon had initially saved his header off a cross from Kazie Enyinnaya was good enough to seal the three points.
With this victory, Rivers United return to the summit of the NPFL table with 15 points from 7 matches
Rivers United will be guest to Katsina United on Thursday, February 4 as the NPFL enters Matchday 8.
