EPL: Iheanacho scores first goal of the season
Kelechi Iheanacho has finally registered his first goal in the English Premier League this season as he got one of the goals that helped Leicester City to a 2-0 away win over Fulham on Wednesday.
The Nigerian forward was on target in the 17th-minute off an assist from James Maddison while James Justin doubled Leicester City’s lead in the 44th minute off another assist from Maddison.
Before finally finding the back of the net in Wednesday’s tie, Iheanacho’s last goal in the Premier League was in July 2020 when the Foxes romped to a 3-0 win over Crystal Palace at the King Power Stadium.
With Iheanacho only making his third start in the league this season against Fulham, his goal drought in the EPL is understandable especially as he commands higher numbers in the Europa League and FA Cup.
Having scored five league goals last season, Iheanacho still has plenty of time to equal or even surpass last season’s numbers.
With Wednesday’s win, the Foxes momentarily leapfrogged Liverpool into the third position and stay very much on track for their top-four finish target.
