Coppa Italia: Osimhen Targets Action Against Atalanta
Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen is in a race against time to return to action as the Nigerian stepped up training in a bid to be fit for Wednesday’s Copa Italia Clash against Atalanta.
Tuttomercatoweb reported that the former Lille forward could be in line for a surprise return to face Atalanta in the return leg of the tie if his level of preparedness is anything to go by.
Osimhen was spotted training alone during the club morning session in Castelvolturno on Tuesday.
The session began with an exercise aimed at an increase in speed after the players passed the mandatory medical examinations for those with Covid-19.
Tuttomercatoweb reported that the former Wolfsburg forward has increased his workload substantially, but it up to manager Genaro Gattuso to make the decisive decision if the Nigerian can make the bench against Atalanta.
Corriere dello sport reported on Monday that the former Royal Charleroi star is eager to rejoin his teammates and help change the club’s fortune in the Italian Serie A this season after the Italian outfit broke it’s transfer record to land him last summer.
The towering striker was injured during Nigeria/ Sierra Leone AFCON Clash last November when he fell awkwardly on his wrist and had to be flown back to Naples where he was later tested positive to Covid-19.
It remains to be seen if the striker will finally return to active football against Atalanta after he was said to be in contention for a comeback last month.
