EXCLUSIVE: Ex-Super Eagles coach Westerhof Hospitalised
Erstwhile Super Eagles manager, Clemence Westerhof was hospitalized on Friday in his hometown of Beek, Netherland, Roving Naija can exclusively report.
The 80-year old Dutch was hurriedly taken to hospital by an ambulance over undisclosed ailments, which has confined him to the four walls of his house for days.
In an exclusive chat with Roving Naija at the weekend, former BCC Lions of Gboko star, Moses Kpakor disclosed that the former Zimbabwe gaffer has been seriously sick.
” Westerhof has been very sick for some time now and had to be rushed to the hospital on Friday in his hometown of Beek,” begins Kpakor.
” The wife has been keeping me informed because no week goes by without having a telephone chat with him and his wife.
” I just pray and hope that he recovers on time. May the Lord grant him quick recovery,”Kpakor said.
Westerhof was the capon de tutti when Super Eagles won the 1994 African Cup of Nations and also qualified for the second round of the FIFA World Cup that year.
Westerhof is also credited with turning Nigeria into a perennial powerhouse in African football and showing that they, and other African nations, can compete on the world stage.
He is responsible for what could be described as a “golden” period in Nigerian football with emergence of players such as Jay-Jay Okocha, Sunday Oliseh, Nwankwo Kanu, Rashidi Yekini, Daniel Amokachi and others, who all went on to enjoy a successful careers with various high-profile European clubs
