UCL: Mbappe wrecks Barca as PSG, Liverpool secure away wins
Liverpool and PSG secured crucial away wins in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 ties on Tuesday night.
While Liverpool edged RB Leipzig 2-0 in Germany, PSG even without their talisman Neymar trounced Barcelona 5-1 at Camp Nou with Kylian Mbappe netting a hat trick in the entertaining clash.
It was Barca that took the lead inside the opening half-hour with Lionel Messi converting a penalty kick after Frenkie de Jong was fouled inside the box.
The goal scored by the Argentine saw him equalling a Champions League record previously held by Real Madrid legend Raul by scoring in his 17th consecutive year in the competition.
While many thought Messi’s goal will open the flood gate of goals for the Catalan side, the reverse was the case as it was PSG all the way from then.
It only took five minutes before Mbappe cancelled out Messi’s goal as the first half ended 1-1.
However, in the second half, Barca crumbled like a pack of cards as Mbappe added two more goals to his tally in 65th and 85th while Moise Keane joined in the goals galore as he registered his name on the scorers’ sheet in the 70th minute.
