The Zamfara State Government has confirmed the abduction of about 300 school girls from the Government Girls Secondary School, Jangebe in Talata Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara State on Friday Morning.
Spokesperson to Governor Bello Matawalle, said that the Government is working with security operatives to ascertain the details of the abduction and ensure the kidnapped victims are freed. He did not confirm the number of students kidnapped.
However, in an interview with the BBC Hausa Service, a teacher in the school confirmed that about 300 female students were kidnapped.
According to early reports, the school came under attack around 01:00 am on Friday when a group of heavily armed gunmen, some dressed as security officers, stormed the school premises and forced the students into their vehicles.
The abductees are still in captivity when this report was uploaded.
