24 Hours After Disgraceful AFCON Exit, GFA Fires Coach

The Ghanian Football Association has ended the contract with its national team head coach, Chris Hughton.

The development is coming less than 24 hours after the exit of the Black Stars from the ongoing African Cup of Nations holding in Cote d’Voire.

Hughton dismissal was confirmed by the football body on Tuesday night.

The Black Stars were eliminated from the group stage, after taking only two points from their three Group B matches.

Their slim hopes of qualifying as one of the four best third-placed teams ended on Tuesday, following Mauritania’s shock 1-0 win over Algeria in Bouaké.

“The Ghana Football Association wishes to announce that Chris Hughton has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the senior National team with immediate effect.

“The Ghana Football Association will in the coming days provide a roadmap on the future direction of the Black Stars,” GFA’s official statement read in part.

Hughton’s backroom staff have all also been dumped by the federation.
