How Burna Boy and Whizkid made Nigeria proud at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards

Nigeria hit it big at the 63rd edition of the biggest and most prestigious global music awards show, The Grammy Awards with victory for Whizkid who won the Best Music Video Awards with Beyonce and Blue Ivy with “Brown Skin Girl” while Burna Boy carted home the award for the Best World Music category for his album “Twice As Tall.”

In the Best Music Video category, the trio of Beyonce, Blue Ivy and Whizkid got the better of fellow nominations such as Future with Drake in “Life Is Good”, Anderson Paak’s “Lockdown”, Harry Styles’ “Adore You”, and Woodwind’s “Goliath.” Brown Skin Girl is a track from Beyoncé’s “The Lion King: The Gift.

To come out tops in his category, Burna Boy defeated albums from Antibalas’ “The Fu Chronicles’, Babel Gilberto’s “Agora,” Anoushka Shankar’s “Love Letters” and Tinariwen’s “Amadjar,” to emerge the winner.

This is second time lucky for Burna Boy who was a nominee at the 62nd edition of the awards held in 2019. As a tribute, the Grammy nomination described his “Twice As Tall” as, a masterclass in the vibe and hustle that have made Burna Boy an international musical force.”

The Grammy Awards is the world’s leading society of music professionals, the Recording is dedicated to celebrating, honouring and sustaining music. The Awards was held in Los Angeles, United States.
