NPFL: Kwara United back at the top after big win

The Nigeria Professional Football League provided some amazing results on Sunday as Kwara United returned to the summit of the log after a comprehensive 5-0 home win against Adamawa United in Ilorin.

Stephen Jude bagged a hat-trick for the Afonja Warriors, with Michael Ohanu also scoring twice for the home team.

Kwara United top the standings with 30 points from 17 points.

Elsewhere, Kano Pillars continued life without their French coach and they did well; registering a 2-1 away win against Wikki Tourists of Bauchi.

Nyima Nwagua put Pillars ahead in the 13th minute after he was teed up by Ebuka David.

David added the second in the 27th minute from Mustapha Jibrin’s assist.

Stephen Chukwude reduced the deficit in the 66th minute but it was not enough to deny Pillars the maximum points.

The away win moved Pillars to the second position on the table while Wikki Tourists dropped to the 13th position.

Another away victory was also recorded at the Agege Stadium where Akwa United beat their hosts MFM 2-1.

Mfon Udoh fired Akwa United in front courtesy of an assist from Ikechukwu Nwani two minutes from the break.

Just before the stroke of half time, Clement Ogwu restored parity for the home side via a well-taken free-kick.

Ikechukwu Nwani put Akwa United back in front following a beautiful assist from Ndifreke Effiong in the 52nd minute and the Olukoya Boys failed in their quest to get back into the game

In Makurdi, Lobi Stars thrashed Rivers United 4-1.

Ossy Martins scored a brace, with Samuel Matthias and Douglas Achiv getting the goals for the home team.

Fortune Omoniwari scored Rivers United’s only goal of the game.

Abia Warriors continued their resurgence with a 3-1 thumping of Katsina United at the Okigwe Township Stadium.
