Aggrieved parents of 39 students who were abducted from the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation, Afaka in Igabi local government area of Kaduna state on 12 March, have given the Federal Government a 48-hours ultimatum to rescue the abductees.
The parents gave the ultimatum at a press briefing organised in the college premises on Monday to draw attention to their plight before they embarked on a protest to drive home their demand.
While displaying placards, the spokesperson for the protesters, Kambai Sam, questioned the long delay in rescuing the abductees when the same security agents were more proactive in rescuing captives in previous cases in Katsina, Zamfara and Niger states.
He expressed dismay that the School authority is yet to receive any communication from the School, the Ministry of Environment or the Kaduna State government since the incident occurred.
Mr. Sam maintained that there is an unacceptable conspiracy of silence around the incident saying that the confidence reposed in the government to rescue the students and reunite them with their parents and loved ones is misplaced because nothing has happened so far.
The Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-rufai is yet to comment on the incident.
