Still basking in the euphoria of Nigeria’s qualifications for AFCON 2022 in Cameroon, Super Eagles assistant coach, Joseph Yobo feels the national team will continue to get better with time.
Nigeria eased past Lesotho scoring three goals on their return to Lagos with Victor Osimhen, Ogenekaro Etebo and Paul Onuachu on the score sheet to confirm their supremacy in Group L after picking 14 points from 6 matches.
But the former Evertonian believe that the senior national is still work in progress, stressing that there is more room for improvement. He assured that coach Gernot is bent on raising a crack side that Nigerians will be proud of.
He then expressed his delight with the players dedication and high work rate, which according to him would go along to help some of the youngsters in the team achieve greater heights in their career.
” The team will get there and will keep working hard till we achieve that feat. This is a great side and it’s a young team too. In as much we want to keep improving, I want to confidently say that this team will do this country proud with the way everyone is working round the clock to make things happen,” he said
He maintained that paramount before him now is to keep working round the clock to ensure Super Eagles parade a water-tight defence that won’t let in many goals.
The 2013 AFCON winner who began his assignment against Sierra Leone where the defenders let in four goals assured that lots of corrections have been carried out in the defense, which according to him has reflected in their last three games.
Yobo was appointed by NFF to bring his wealth of defensive experience to the backline, whilst also pursuing his coaching badges.
