The Nigeria Police Force (NPC) has fingered members of the Easter Security Network (ESN), an arm of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), as the masterminds and executors of the attack on Imo State on Monday.
The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu who revealed the information on Monday said he has deployed more member of the Police and the Police Mobil Force (PMF) and other strategic units to Imo state to beef up security and arrest the culprits.
It would be recalled that in an operation carried out on Monday, the Police Command and the Headquarters of the Nigerian Correctional Services (NCS) in Owerri were bombed by members of the ESN in the State.
Mr. Adamu, who spoke through the Force Police Public Relations Officer FPPRO) Mr. Frank Mba, said that the gunmen carried out the dastardly operations with the use of weapons such as General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMGs), Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPGs), Sub-Machine Guns (SMGs), AK49 rifles and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
He also disclosed that an attempt by the assailants to force their way into the Police Armoury Dump at the Headquarters was foiled by personnel on duty.
The Police IG who said that the Police safe was not broken into and added that the Force did not suffer any human casualty. He however informed that a Police Constable sustained minor bullet wounds.
Adamu said that the perpetrators would soon be arrested and made to face the wrath of the law gave assurance that the Police has the capacity to frustrate the efforts of those working to undermine the peace and security in the country.
He called on members of the public to support the Police and other security agencies by providing them with useful information.
Meanwhile the IG has directed the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, Nasiru Mohammed to spare no efforts in ensuring that the situation is swiftly brought under control.
