NAF locates site of missing Jet

A combined search and rescue team of the Nigerian Military has traced the location of the missing NAF Jet (475) to a location in the Sambisa area of Borno State, in the terror-ravaged North-east Nigeria.

It is understood that the Air Force is dispatching a team to the location in addition to the ground team, as part of efforts to recover the wreckage and pilots: Flight Lieutenant Chapele Ebiakpo and Flight Lieutenant John Abolarinwa.

It would be recalled that the NAF advanced trainer and tactical-support two-seater Jet went missing on Wednesday, March 31, while on a support mission for ground troops, when it lost radar contact as reported by spokesperson for the NAF, Air Commodore Edward Gabwhet in a statement.

While the controversy raged in the media on the possible cause of the accident, a video from Abubakar Shekau led Boko Haram faction surfaced on the internet on Friday 2, April, showing the debris of the aircraft and fighters in gun trucks firing at the aircraft before the crash.

However, another statement from the NAF clarified that the search was still ongoing, adding that the Force will inform the media of any new development.

Although the official cause of the crash has not been made public, there are fears that technical or anti-aircraft guns may be connected to the sequence of events that resulted in the aircraft coming down in a contested area. (HumAngle)
