It does appear that the security situation in the East of Nigeria is getting worse by the day with the recent report that some hoodlums have attacked the zone 13 police command in ukpo, Dunukofia local government area of Anambra State.
The incident occurred on Monday morning.
while the motive behind the attack is still unclear sources who wish not to be named and who were around the police headquarters along Enugu-Onitsha expressway confirmed the incident.
The sources reported sounds of heavy gun battle before vehicles and property were set ablaze, an indication that the hoodlums may have been resisted by law enforcement officers.
A video made by a police officer on duty at the zonal headquarters showed the administrative building of the headquarters going up in flames as a result of the attack.
There is no official confirmation yet of the incident at the time of uploading this report.
In a related development, another Police station, this time, a divisional police post has been set ablaze in another attack in Uzuakoil Bende local government area of Abia State.
According to reports an armed group attacked the station on Monday morning, freed some of the inmates in the police cells before setting it ablaze.
Updated: The Abia Police Command has confirmed Monday’s attack on the Uzuakoli Divisional Police Station in Bende Local Government Area.
Spokesperson for the command, SP Godfrey Ogbonna, said in Umuahia, the State capital that the incident happened at about 3 am.
He said that no life was lost and that operatives at the command repelled the assailants and stopped them from gaining access to the armoury.
“They used dynamite and rocket launcher to burn down the building, including private and official vehicles, tricycles and motorcycles parked on the premises,” he said.
Ogbonna said that the command had commenced investigation into the attack. (NAN)
