Another Nigerian Football Club Involved In Road Accident
Just when you think you have heard or seen it all, another Nigerian football club has been involved in a newly reported road mishap.
Roving Naija gathered that Nigeria National League club side, Abịa Comets of Abia State was Sunday morning involved in a ghastly accident on their way from Oyo state.
Thankfully, there are strong indications that none of the 26 occupants of the car; 18 players and 8 officials was hurt.
According to the secretary and media coordinator of the club, Ezindu Hyacinth, the team was on their way back to Umuahia after honouring the week 14 match of the 2020/21 NNL season against Crown FC played at the LAUTECH Sports Complex, Ogbomosho, Oyo state.
He narrated how the accident happened in a release made available to the media.
“To the glory of God, Abia Comets F. C. team of 18 players, 8 officials and a Coaster bus driver escaped what would have been a colossal loss to the football Community, Abia State in particular and Nigeria at large.
The car hit by the bus while avoiding collision
“The sad event took place a little after Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo.
“The driver of the Coaster bus conveying the team had overtaken a bus but another bus that was in its front suddenly slowed down. Our bus driver in a bid to avoid hitting it swerved to the right, hit an aged blue coloured Honda and ran into the bush avoiding a big nearby ditch by inches.
“Luckily nobody was injured. The aged Honda car however had it’s boot, fender, bomber, break light and the head lamps damaged as a result of the hitting.”
He confirmed to our correspondent that no player sustained injury neither was the bus damaged adding that the team had continued on it’s journey back home.
Some clubs in the elite Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL including Akwa United, Wikki Toursits and the NNL side Ekiti United, among others, have been involved in road mishaps in recent times although no casualties have been recorded.
