Some Parents, families, friends and concerned Nigerians on Tuesday, staged a protest at the National Assembly in Abuja, to press for the quick release of the abducted students of Federal College of Forestry and Mechanisation, Afaka, Kaduna State.
Other protesters at the National Assembly include members of the Students Union Government (SUG) of the institution.
The protesters were lamenting over what they described as the negligence of the state and Federal Government in securing the release of the students after 55 days in captivity without any visible and feasible move by government to secure their release.
The protesters, who chanted songs of solidarity and displayed placards demanding prompt rescue of the students, were heard screaming that “education is our right, free Afaka 29.”
From information gathered, the parents were particularly irked by the continued captivity of their children saying: “It’s going to be 55 days today, getting to two months on Thursday.”
The parents had in the past staged a protest against the state government’s handling of the kidnap case and threatened to resort to self-help because of the stand of the Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-rufai not to negotiate with terrorists.
It would be recalled that on March 12, gunmen kidnapped 39 students comprising of 23 females and 16 males in the school. Later ten of the abductees were released in two batches of five while 29 remained in captivity.
On Thursday, April 27, a video emerged of the remaining abducted students pleading with the Nigerian Government to ensure their safe release.
