Champions League: Chelsea beat Real Madrid to final ticket

The stage is set for the third all-English UEFA Champions League final after 2008 after Chelsea confirmed their place in the Istanbul final with a 2-0 win over Real Madrid Wednesday night at Stamford Bridge.

Having recorded a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture in Spain, Thomas Tuchel’s side progressed on a 3-1 aggregate score line to set up a final date with fellow Premier League side Manchester City

Despite being heavily criticized by fans, it was Timo Werner who struck the first-half opener before Mason Mount sealed things late on to take Tuchel’s side into the May 29 Istanbul showpiece against Premier League champions-elect City, who they recently defeated in the FA Cup semi-final.

Tuchel will contest his second successive Champions League final, having lost to Bayern Munich with Paris Saint-Germain last season. Chelsea are in their first final since lifting the trophy in 2012.

Real were second-best throughout and can have no complaints about losing as Zinedine Zidane experienced his first semi-final defeat as coach, having won all three of his previous visits to the last-four.
