EPL: How Arsenal broke the 10-year jinx against Chelsea

For the first time in almost two decades, Arsenal have completed a league double over Chelsea; beating the Blues both home and away this season in the Premier League.

The slim 1-0 win recorded Wednesday night meant Arsenal have completed their first Premier League double over Chelsea since the 2003-04 season, while this was their first league win at Stamford Bridge since October 2011, ending an eight-game winless run there.

Arsenal were quite fortunate as the only goal of the game came off an error committed by Jorginho.

The Italian did not look up before playing a ball back toward Kepa Arrizabalaga, who was forced to dart backwards and slap the ball off the line.

Unfortunately, that fell for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who calmly set up Emile Smith-Rowe for his second goal in as many games.

This win and three points will see Arsenal now begin to calculate their odds of getting back into the top seven.

On thier part, the loss by Chelsea keeps the Blues two points back of third-place Leicester City and equally open the top-four door wider for West Ham and Liverpool while giving a glimmer of hope to Tottenham.

For Arsenal, they’re  now just one point behind seventh-place Spurs and two back of Liverpool, albeit with one more match played than the former and two more than the latter.

Chelsea have two final games ahead of them in the FA Cup and the Champions League where they would be squaring it up against Leicester City and Manchester City respectively.
