Heartbreak as three Super Eagles stars fail Champions League test
One competition any player in Europe covets playing in is the UEFA Champions League.
Apart from the monetary gains that await the teams that qualify, the players are also eager to show their talents in the biggest stage available as far as club football is concerned.
Unfortunately, three Super Eagles players bottled up their chances of qualifying for the flagship competition over the weekend.
First, it was the duo of Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi with Leicester City.
The Foxes needed a win at home to Tottenham but even though their rivals Chelsea were beaten by Aston Villa, Leicester City failed to do their part.
Brendan Rodgers’ men blew a 2-1 lead midway into the second half to lose 4-2 to Spurs who have qualified for the UEFA Europa Conference League.
While one would think that their compatriot Victor Osimhen would have learned from the slip suffered by his countrymen, that was not the case.
Osimhen and his Napoli teammates were held to a 1-1 draw by Verona and that effectively extinguished their champions league hopes especially as Juventus got the job done perfectly away to Bologna.
