Cameroon 0-0 Nigeria: Super Eagles fail to beat Indomitable Lions again
The Nigeria national team settled for an uninspiring 0-0 draw with the Cameroon national team on Tuesday in an international friendly.
Tuesday’s tie was the second meeting between the two continental superpowers in four days but it failed to provide the goals most fans were looking out for.
Contrary to wide expectation, coach Gernot Rohr stuck to a largely unchanged lineup from Friday’s clash with just two changes made for Tuesday’s tie in Weiner Neustadt.
Maduka Okoye kept his place in goal while the likes of Alex Iwobi who had a far from impressive show in the first tie were also lined out for Tuesday’s outing
The duo of Moses Simon and Jamilu Collins who were widely to have cupped varying degrees of knocks from the first leg.
Then Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa also returned to the starting line-up after coming off the bench in the previous game.
It was Cameroon who dominated the most of the first half but Okoye was did quite well to deny the Indomitable Lions from scoring.
In a bid to break the deadlock, coach Rohr replaced Paul Onuachu with Terem Moffi in the 46th minute, he also attempted a handful of other changes but it failed to influence the final outcome
The Super Eagles will next take on Mexico in another international friendly scheduled for July 4.
While the Africa Cup of Nations is still like six months away, teams such as Cameroon and Nigeria are already putting together the final touches to their preparations for that tournament as well as the World Cup qualifiers.
For the World Cup qualifers, the Super Eagles are pitched against Liberia and Cape Verde Islands in August and September respectively.
