UFC welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman meets Kogi Gov. Yahaya Bello

UFC’s welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman, who announced his trip back to Nigeria after beating Gilbert Burns at his division’s Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is now in the country

The UFC champion who arrived in Nigeria last night from his base in the United States of America was received by his Excellency at Lugard house on Thursday.

On hand to welcome the Nigerian-American was the speaker of the state house of assembly, Rt Hon.Matthew Kolawole and the Chairman of the Kogi state sports council board who also doubles as the Chairman of Kogi United and Confluence queens fc Hon Abdulmalik Isah Dolly.

The professional mixed Martial art and freestyle wrestler who currently competes in the welterweight division of the ultimate fighting championship (UFC) was in the state to help promote the sports in the state.

Usman is Nigeria’s first-ever undisputed UFC welterweight champion, having cemented his position with 14 straight wins, making history as the longest ever holder of a win-streak in the division.

Usman who arrived in Abuja today to a flurry of activities will have a subsequent stop at Lagos before making it to his home state of Edo.

While in Edo state which is his home state, Kamaru Usman will be visiting family and friends and initiate a community activation plan that involves making lives better for his people.

Usman was born in Auchi, his father was a major in the Nigerian Army and his mother was a teacher.

He has two brothers, Kashetu and Mohammed, of whom the former is a Doctor of Pharmacy and the latter is a mixed martial artist
