Democracy Day: APC Chairman canvasses support for Government

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of Imo State, Chief Mercillinus Nlemigbo, says a collective and unconditional support for government at all levels is imperative for stronger democratic process in the country.

Nlemigbo made the call at the occasion of Nigeria’s Democracy Day Celebration in Abuja on Saturday.

He told NAN that only national solidarity for leadership would prevent democracy from sliding.

“Nigeria’s democracy is a still young and the building of democracy to stronger status is a gradual process.

“In the democratisation process, there are bound to be mistakes which are amenable to corrections,” he said.

The APC chairman who congratulated Nigerians on the occasion of Democracy Day, reiterated the need to support and preserve democratic institutions.

Nlemigbo emphasised the need to improve on the gains of democracy for prosperous country.

He decried the level of security challenges in the country and called on all to join hands in containing the ugly menace.

According to him, security is everybody’s business, we cannot afford to aid and hail bandits and expect government to take responsibility alone.

Nlemigbo appealed for neighbourly partnership in efforts towards curtailing security challenges in the country.

“We are supposed to be our brothers keepers, be vigilant all the time to know when a stranger or criminal element comes into our midst.”

The APC chairman, however, stressed the need for Nigerians to continue to show optimism in the democratisation process.
