Judiciary workers resume work after two months old strike

Judiciary Workers in the country, on Tuesday, resumed work across the country after calling off its industrial action aimed at securing financial autonomy for the Judicial arm of government.

The industrial action was initiated under the aegis of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN).

However, some courts in the country and at the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja did not resume work because some lawyers and judges were absent in court.

The strike has affected a backlog of cases and it is yet to be seen how the judiciary will make up for lost grounds.

This has prompted some lawyers to suggest that the annual holiday for the courts and members of the judiciary for this year should be cancelled so that the justice system will not suffer more epileptic justice delivery.

It would be recalled that on May 22 this year, President Muhammadu Buhari signed into law an Executive Order granting financial autonomy to the legislature and judiciary across the 36 states of the federation.
