KASU moves to stop legitimate agitation, protests by Students

The management of Kaduna State University (KASU) has directed the school to resume academic activities for a new academic session with effect from Tuesday 22 June.

It would be recalled that on Tuesday June 1, students of the School embarked on a protest action and blocked the major road leading to the Government House, Kaduna over increase in tuition fees.

According to the Institution, parents of returning students must sign a document assuring the School that their son/daughter/ward will be of good behaviour and will obey all the rules and regulations of his/her department as well as the University at large.

However, what is a subject of controversy is a paragraph directing parents to pledge/agree that their Son/Daughter/Ward will be expelled without warning if he/she engages in any demonstration/protest against the increment in tuition fees or any contrary activities of the Universities rules and regulation.

This clause is considered undemocratic as it infringes on the rights of the students and their parents to express their disaffection against any decision of the school they may find disagreeable or outright obnoxious.

The directive is contained in the Kaduna State University Special Bulletin signed by the registrar, Samuel Manshop which was posted online by Omoyele Sowore and sighted by RovingNaija.
