Nigerian Army loses two men in operation against Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists

The Nigerian Army lost two gallant officers on Sunday when troops of the 152 Task Battalion, with support from the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai, (OPHK)engaged and neutralized 12 Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists.

According to a statement on Monday by the Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, the terrorists, who came with gun trucks and several motorcycles to infiltrate the military’s Forward Operational Base (FOB) at Bula Yobe in Borno State, were repelled by the troops after heavy fighting.

However, two soldiers were killed in the process with five others sustaining different injuries while 12 terrorists were subdued whereas several others fled with gunshot wounds.

The injured soldiers have been evacuated by the Air Component of OPHK to a medical facility for treatment.

According to the statement, the troops seized some items from the terrorists including one gun truck, one self-propelled Gun-9, one Dushika gun, one mounted QJC Machine Gun, one Light Machine Gun and five AK 47 Rifles.

Brigadier Gen. Nwachukwu said the troops have restored normalcy to the general area within the FOB, in Bula Yobe.

In a related development, the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Faruk Yahaya, has commended the land troops and air component for their synergy and quick response.

He charged the troops to maintain the tempo and vehemently hold their ground against the terrorists.
