EURO 2020:Kane leads England into the semi-final in style

England have qualified for the semi-final stage of Euro 2020 and they did it in ruthless fashion Saturday night in Rome.

Gareth Southgate’s men recorded a 4-0 victory over Ukraine to move within one win from making it into the first major tournament final since 1966.

After conquering the Germans at Wembley, the Three Lions were the favourites going into last quarter final tie and they did not disappoint.

Goals at the start of each half by Harry Kane and Harry Maguire helped England book a last-four meeting with Denmark at Wembley on Wednesday

Kane’s second goal was followed by a header from substitute Jordan Henderson who rounded off an exciting win for the Three Lions.

Jordan Pickford was brilliant in goal to ensure a fifth successive clean sheet at the tournament.

However, beyond that, reaching a first European Championship semi-final for 25 years would be more important.

England showed great intent when they opened scoring in the fourth minute.

Kane lifted the ball beyond Georgi Bushchan after Raheem Sterling’s sumptuous pass.

Thereafter, Maguire’s aggressive header from Manchester United team-mate Luke Shaw’s free-kick doubled the lead.

England captain Kane made it three goals in two games with a close-range header after another assist by Shaw before Henderson added the fourth – following a Mason Mount corner.

Saturday’s victory is England’s biggest win at a European Championship finals, overtaking their 4-1 victory over the Netherlands in the group stage at Euro 96.

Earlier, Denmark booked their place in the semi-final phase following their 2-1 win over the Czech Republic in Baku on Saturday.

First-half goals from Thomas Delaney (5) and Kasper Dolberg (42) put Kasper Hjulmand’s side in command and while Patrik Schick (49) pulled one goal back there was no late equaliser.

The result sets up a Wembley date with England for a Denmark team that lost their first two matches but have now scored 10 times in winning their last three.
