PDP Crisis: The Leadership of The PDP was Derailing -Bode George
A member of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) Chief Olabode George has declared that the crisis rocking the party was orchestrated by the leadership of the party which was derailing from the party’s constitution.
Bode George spoke on Tuesday night as guest on Channels Television’s flagship political programme Politics Today.
RovingNaija recalls that earlier on Tuesday in Abuja, two group of protesters – pro and anti Secondus party members – blocked the party secretariat to express their support and displeasure with the running of the party by its National Chairman.
While speaking on the succesful rapproachment brokered by the party Bode George congratulated stakeholders for the resolution of the lingering leadership crisis,.
The former deputy national chairman of the party said the development is a rebirth for the party today.
Asked to shed more light on his thoughts as expressed in the scathing remarks credited to him about the leaders of the party, George said the statement was meant to be delivered for the benefit of the party members and he was surprised that the document was leaked to the media.
It would be recalled that the crisis in the party led to calls for the removal of the party Chairman, Uche Secondus, a situation that forced Bode George to describe the leadership of the party as rudderless and visionless in a statement intended for the BoT of the party.
George maintained that Tuesday will go down as a special day in the annals of the party as the elders came together to strengthen the vision of the founding fathers.
He also observed that before the resolution everything became “rowdy in the party,” but declined to go into the details of “the debris or the filth” that existed in the party.
“The leadership of the party was wobbly and the modus operandi adopted in managing the party by the leaders was unacceptable,” he stated.
The retired senior military officer also clarified that the agitations leading to the meeting of the party’s stakeholders in Abuja on Tuesday was justified because the leadership of the party was derailing from the constitution and the norms of the party.
He also expressed happiness that steps have been taken to hold the convention of the party while adding that the successful staging of the convention will go a long way in convincing Nigerians that the PDP is ready for the 2023 elections and very capable of winning future elections in the country.
“I am extremely very glad and happy that the party would also win the support of the youths in the party and the country,” he opined.
He clarified that the dissatisfaction with the leadership style of the party was mutual and not orchestrated by some governors as speculated by the media.
“As elders of the party we and most party members were concerned that disgruntled members were jumping ship to the opposition and nothing was happening to stop the trend,” he said.
