DStv Subscribers Frustrated by Lionel Messi’s Move to PSG

Some fans in Nigeria particularly subscribers to DStv, the leading pay entertainment brand on the African continent, have taken to social media platforms to express their frustration at the recent completion of the transfer of Lionel Messi from Barcelona to Paris Saint Germain (PSG).

It would be recalled that on Tuesday, Messi ended his twenty one year stint with the Catalan Giants in Spain to pitch tents with PSG in the French Ligue1 where he is set to reunite with his former teammate Neymar and top striker Kylian Mbappe to cement a lethal strike force for his new club.

The move, seen as a welcome development for football lovers globally, is not going down well with DStv subscribers who are worried concerning the prospect of a total blackout from watching arguably the best-attacking trio in modern football, over broadcast rights to the French Ligue1.

The frustration is compounded by the claim that the rival brand, Startimes, currently has the rights to the French League, a development which implies that premium paying DStv subscribers are set to suffer double jeopardy of subscribing to Startimes to watch their favourite football stars in some foreign leagues.

A visit to the SuperSport Website lists its offering of football leagues as the Premier League (English), Spanish La Liga, Italia Serie A and Champion’s league while rival Startimes is currently promoting the availability of La Liga, German Bundesliga and Premier League on its platform.

The question many want to be answered is: Who has the right to broadcast the French Ligue1 to soccer-loving Nigerians who want to see Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and other stars at the commencement of the new soccer season.
