Basketball: Rivers Hoopers overcome Police Baton

Three-time Nigeria Premier League champion, Rivers Hoopers shook off a slow start to annihilate Police Baton 88-52 in their second game of the Nigeria Premier Basketball League in Akure.

Rivers Hoopers struggled on the offensive in the first quarter and scored just 6 points against 9 points made by Police Baton who were a tough nut to crack.

Three straight 3s from Benjamin Ikechukwu at the start of the second quarter got Hoopers into their rhythm and they never looked back from there on.

The KingsMen built a double-digit lead (23) at half time and consolidated on it in the second half.

Five Hoopers players finished on double figures against Police Baton. Benjamin Ikechukwu continued from where he left off on Thursday as he scored a game high 17 points with five threes to go with it.

Buchi Nwaiwu contributed on both ends of the court as he added 15 points, Ronald Alalibo added 13 same as Owen Oriakhi while Solomom Ajegbeyi scored 10 points.

Rivers Hoopers outscored their opponent in the remaining three quarters despite a late surge in the game.

The KingsMen knocked down 12 threes and missed 4 /13 from the free throw line against Police.

Rivers Hoopers’ next game is against Lagos Raptors on Saturday, September 11.

A 64-49pts win ensured they recorded their second victory after two games for an 100% win ratio in the Atlantic Conference.

Kwara Falcons recorded their third win to sit conveniently atop the conference after defeating CAMAC, 71-52pts in the second game of the day.
